Top 7 Couples
Tonight’s Judges: Nigel Lithgoe, Mary Murphy, Tabitha and Napoleon
It’s yet another WTF is Cat Deeley Wearing night. They’ve also done something strange to her hair.
Jessica and Will – first up is a jive routine. Music: “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie,” Five Guys Named Moe (Original Broadway Cast). Through the whole thing they’re making goofy faces, it’s too much like they’re pretending to do the dance and not enough like they’re actually doing it. There is one pretty nifty move that they nailed. Tabitha felt the fight in their performance, Mary says they missed a lot of connections. Nigel liked the bounce that Will had but said Jessica didn’t have the right balance.
Comfort and Thayne –
they get a Broadway routine as their first as a dance couple. Music: “Cool,” Bernstein and Sondheim. Thayne looks like he’s got a broom handle up his butt. In general I thought they could have been more in sync during the parts they were supposed to be. They had some interesting turns and… I can’t call them lifts, maybe “drags”? Tabitha likes the pairing, Napoleon likes the flirtiness. I notice that Thayne is made of teeth. Mary is proud of Comfort. Nigel says that the aggression that the piece needed (being from West Side Story and all) wasn’t there, and it wasn’t good enough. He says they’d have been boo’ed off Broadway.
Kourtni and Matt – it’s going to be hip hop first. Music: “How Do I Breathe,” Mario. This may be the first time I liked what Kourtni was wearing. The dance is fairly understated, but they seem to be doing it well. They are very well in sync when they are in sync, but they missed it a few glaring times. Tabitha says Matt surprised her; Napoleon says it wouldn’t work at a hip hop competition. Mary says it didn’t make her feel anything. Nigel isn’t sure what he didn’t like about it, but he says it didn’t grab him. He calls it hip hop on sleeping pills.

Chelsie and Mark – they have a jazz routine that the choreographer says is “quick.” Music: “Kiss Kiss,” Holly Vance. I don’t like the way Cheslie keeps rounding her shoulders, but maybe it’s the choreography. She seems quite weightless during several of the lifts and other “weight bearing” moves. Tabitha and Napoleon loves their chemistry and says they perform well no matter what style they’re given. Mary does a fakeout but then says she loved it. No, she screams it. Gah. GO AWAY MARY. Nigel says it “just worked” and that they’re the first couple of the night with a connection.
