Group dance – The dancers are all wearing black and white, and look like they’re in a Tim Burton movie. The costumes are quite interesting. I like the overall look of the routine, though some of the jerky mechanical stuff started getting old. The poles are an interesting touch. The thumb-sucking girl making stupid faces I could have done without. Actually, a lot of the… no, make that all of the stupid faces I could have done without. But it was pretty cool anyway. Choreographed by Mia Michaels.
Cat Deeley is actually in a dress tonight, and not a pile of paper muffin cups or a Q-tip costume or a feather duster or one of the other monstrocities they tend to put the poor woman in. The dress does have a stupid necklilne, but other than that it’s okay.

Chelsea and Thayne – (Quickstep) are in the bottom three, just as Nigel predicted they would be.
Katee and Joshua, (Samba) despite their nervousness and Joshua saying that his first reaction to drawing the samba was that he was going to have to get his solo ready, they are safe.
Chelsie and Mark – (Hip hop) the judges loved it, Adam jumped out of his chair over it, and the audience liked it too. They’re safe.
Kherington and Twitch – (Hip hop) are safe. No surprises there.
Courtney and Gev, (Rhumba) also safe. There is again no surprise.
Chris and Comfort (Jazz) are the second couple to go to the bottom three. Yet again, no surprises.
Kourtni and Matt (Contemporary) are in the bottom three. Nigel says that Matt doesn’t get into character enough and does a bunch of funny accents.
Jessica and Will (Disco) are safe.
Space Filler Dancing
Ryan, Dominic, and Hawk from past seasons along with some other people dressed in lab coats do a strange hip hop routine. As usual I can’t understand what the name of their group is due to Cat’s voice*. The dance a little too spastic for my taste, but there are some cool moments and certainly there are plenty of impressive moves.
We have to suffer through some more of the “Snuggle Fabric Softener Happy Dance Competition.” And we get to see the contestants watching submitted pieces. They say that “the winner is…Rheo” but I don’t know if that’s the offcial winner. (He’s an Asian looking guy who points at his butt while wiggling it, then falls over.)
Solos – Dancing for their lives
Chelsea – very bad song choice. It’s a melodic song with absolutely no rhythm to it, and while she does some nice moves, I can’t really tell what they had to do with the music.
Thayne – also a bad song choice, in my opinion. His dance had a little more to do with the music, but not much. For part of it he seemed to get lost and run around the stage looking for where he was supposed to be. The dance didn’t flow together for mhe as a cohesive piece.
Comfort – she really is a good hip hop dancer. She had a good choice of clothing that suited the dance as well (though she almost lost her pants once.)
Chris – erm… he does about three things and then does them over and over and over. Mostly it’s running, then doing that move where you stop suddenly but your upper body and arms keep going and you kind of flop over like a rag doll, then start going in the other direction. It’s very boring and forgettable. Unless Matt screws up bigtime I think Chris will be leaving.
Kourtni – she’s actually wearing something flattering! Oh my god! Neat reveal during her leap of the fact that she’s wearing bright red spandex shorts under her rather conservative looking gray dress. The dance is mostly a lyrical contemporary piece, but she throws in some strange popping stuff with her hands at one point that looks out of place. The part where she was on her knees and leaned back was pretty. I didn’t think it was good music to dance to, which didn’t help her.
Matt – He almost fell over at the end, I think! I actually expected better from him since I’ve seen him dance solos before. That said it wasn’t bad, it just didn’t knock my socks off or anything.
Space Filler Singing
It’s Jordin Sparks, the winner of last year’s American Idol. I liked her a lot on that show—she was my pick to win quite early on. She’s wearing what appears to be a party dress for a six year old. Obviously not that small—Jordin is a big girl (not fat, just big)—but it’s hot pink with an orange sash and it just has that “little girl” cut to it. The song isn’t unlistenable (as these things so often are) but it’s nothing I’d go buy a CD for.
Judging Results
Right off the bat Chelsea is told she is going home. It is surprising, since usually they tell one person they’re safe then try to build up a lot of drama over which of the other two it is going to be. Nigel tells all of the girls that they’ve been in the bottom three multiple times and that it should tell them something. They go to a shot of Thayne (her partner) wiping away a tear.
Nigel says Matt’s solo was brilliant and said he’s safe. Chris goes home, as I predicted, and Thayne is now partnered with Comfort.
*Cat has an English accent, obviously, but beyond that she has strange intonation/cadence at times. For example, she always calls the judges “Ji-jiz” or perhaps “j’jiz” but either way, it’s strange and it isn’t just the accent. I watch a ton of British tv and movies and generally have no problem understanding all but the thickest regional accents. It’s one thing when she’s using words that logically flow in a sentence—you can parse it. But proper names that you aren’t already aware of? Good luck.
