Review: This was a fun movie. It was. I enjoyed it. I’m not a comic book person and so I had to have my friend brief me on the backstory before the movie started (I didn’t see the previous ones) but as she said to me, it’s pretty simple stuff. So why am I only giving it two meows? Well… a lot of it was fairly poorly done. For example, there is a scene where Reed Richards is dancing at his bachelor party and he does a bunch of his fancy arm-and-leg stretching. It was so cheesy! For one thing, his clothing stretched and snapped back along with his body. For another thing, it really just looked like someone used the video equivalent of Photoshop and adjusted the length on an image of his arm or leg. In today’s world of computer graphics sophistication, there is no excuse for effects that look that fake.

There were also a bunch of scenes that suffered from bad writing or bad acting, or from bad directing. I rolled my eyes a lot during this movie, and I’m usually quite willing to swallow whatever outlandish reality a movie is serving up. They just have to serve it up in a believable way, which this one failed to do.
