Review:
First off, before I say anything else, I need to acknowledge the fact that I had read the book before I saw the movie. I think that I would have enjoyed the movie less—or at least not understood it as well—if I hadn’t. That said, I really liked it! Admittedly the story was rushed. Admittedly they changed a few things that bothered me. Admittedly, they cut off the ending, though I hear that is supposed to be at the beginning of the sequel. But even with those flaws, it was a really beautiful movie. The acting was good, the special effects were good, and the overall design of the movie was fantastic. I really hope it makes enough money to get them to do the sequels.

(in the book he’s not a previously known character)
Yes he is! In the book he was Tony Makarios, and a whole chapter described Mrs. Coulter luring him to the warehouse from which he was shipped to the north.
This brings up my biggest problem with the movie, which is that we’re never shown any children being taken by the Gobblers. Without that, we have much less at stake emotionally in anything that happens later in the movie.
