Answers
Why ‘World Domination’? Well, after enough people teased me about the ever-growing size of my website, I decided to make it official: I’m taking over the world! The official WDH motto is “Where there is a niche, I will fill it.” A more serious answer as to how it started to grow so big is that I interact a lot online and I found myself telling people the same things over and over, and it was just easier to write a page about it and send a link. Then it became a habit. Then an obsession.

When are you going to take off your clothes?
Well, I take them off when I take a shower or a bath. They come off when I change clothes. Sometimes I walk around the house naked, even. I will not, however, be naked while I’m on the webcam. Sorry.

Why aren’t you willing to at least flash the webcam?
Several reasons. First, my site is not a porn site. That is not its purpose. That is not why I do it. Second, my site is not an adult-only site and I am unwilling to make it one. Third, even though there are some hormonal males out there who think they really need to see me naked, my mother, father, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who watch the cam don’t see it that way.

I was married in 1991. My husband and I separated (amicably) in January of 2005 and the divorce became final in November, 2006. I got remarried on May 24, 2009 to a podiatrist and fellow juggler named Dan. He is currently doing his residency in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Not big on math, eh? He was born 09/15/95. That makes him 14 as of the date I’m answering this question (which may or may not still be accurate when you are reading it). Amazingly, each year he gets another year older. You can still use your fingers/toes to figure it out for a few more years.

At my house. Duh. Ok, I live in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to this I lived in the suburbs south of Cleveland, Ohio for 2 years, and before that the suburbs north of Atlanta, Georgia for 2 1/2 years, and for 8 years before that, in the suburbs of Washington, DC. (in northern Virginia). Originally, I’m from Tucson, Arizona .

My birthday is February 11, 1972. As of the most recent updating of this FAQ I am 37. You can draw that like this on your wall:
////////////////////////////// and then every year, add another line. This way you will always know how old I am. Plus, it will impress your friends.

What kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to a pretty broad range, but I’m also really picky. I like Sinéad O’Connor, Suzanne Vega, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Sisters of Mercy, Shriekback, Violent Femmes, They Might Be Giants, Weird Al, various Celtic music, classical music, showtunes… it’s a really long and ecclectic list. I like to go out dancing to ’80s music and “goth” type stuff (partially because it’s fun to dance to, and partially because it’s fun to dress for!)

Did you do your website yourself? What about the graphics?
Yes, I am solely responsible for the website, and for the graphics unless otherwise noted. I’ve been doing websites since 1995. I have a bachelor’s degree in art.

What’s the deal with your weird makeup?
Ah, you’ve been poking through the Gallery, and have seen the Weird Pictures. It’s not actually makeup. Usually, it’s a combination of Sharpie permanent markers and whatever water-soluable markers of my son’s that I can find on short notice. Sometimes late at night when I’m bored, I draw designs on my face. Call it a hobby. Some of the pics are actually weird makeup, like special effects stuff (old age, injuries, facial hair, animals, etc)… theatre is another interest of mine.

What are the Fabulous Forums of Fathom?
The forums are a collection of message boards with varying purposes. It is a casual community of really nice people (you should join!) from all around the world, though most are from the US. Here is a blurb from the fathom homepage: “…this vibrant international community of students, professionals, parents, and folks from all walks of life are always happy to welcome newcomers and discuss just about anything under the sun. There are several forums to sort discussions into rough topic genres from intellectual debate to friendly chat to jokes and games. Our friendly staff consists of a wonderful bunch of people who are dedicated to keeping the forums the happy community that it has become. We have doctors, lawyers, teachers, and other highly knowledgeable people both as members and as staff. They are always willing to answer questions and lend a helping hand.”

What/who are “Fathomites” and “3fers”? What does “3FMB” mean?
“Fathomite” and “3fer” are names for the members of the forums. Fabulous Forums of Fathom, you see. Similarly, the 3FMB refers to the “3F“ Message Board, though it is more commonly just called “FFF“.

What is the nature of the universe?
Mostly it’s a lot of dust and emptiness, but there are stars and planets and stuff too. And kittens.
And I want a pony.

What are your political views?
I’m a registered Democrat. I think that abortion is usually the wrong choice, but I think that outlawing it would be a Really Bad Idea. I vote pro-choice because I don’t think it’s up to the government. I think that we should spend more money on education and less on defense. I think that the government needs to begin funding research and development of alternate energy sources in earnest. I think that Clinton was a good president and that his extramarital definitions of ‘is’ had nothing to do with his job. I think that George ‘Dubya’ Bush is an idiot and a liar and has damaged our country more than any other president in the history of our nation. I don’t think I’m intolerant or pushy about it though. My husband is a Republican and I have yet to put his toothbrush in the toilet or anything.

What are your religious views?
I believe in a god, of sorts, but I think that knowing the name or nature of that “god” is completely irrelevant. God is not tangible or comprehensible, and therefore it is up to each person to decide how to view “god”. If someone likes to visualize god as the sun or moon, or as a big guy with a beard and a bathrobe, or whatever… that’s fine. I think the histories are valid only as points of perspective. What you believe happened in the past is irrelevant. All religions are just different sides of the same coin, and each deserves respect and tolerance. I have had both a Muslim imam and a Jewish rabbi say that based on hearing my beliefs, they think I would qualify as Muslim and Jewish, respectively.

The short answer is that I love animals a whole lot. Since I can eat perfectly healthy and yummy meals without dead animals in them, I don’t see the point in killing the animals unneccessarily. The longer answer can be found in this essay that I wrote a few years ago: Vegetarianism: the why, the wherefore.

Why do you keep a journal? Isn’t that a bit vain?
I’ve always liked the idea of keeping a journal. I am, however, sometimes a lazy and disorganized person and my previous attempts at paper journaling were miserable failures. At the same time, I do like making webpages about anything and everything. Online journaling makes it easier for me to think of it as both a way of documenting my experiences for myself as well as publishing a “blog” (how I dislike that word!). That’s how it started, anyway. With all the features of LiveJournal, and all the friends I have on it, it is both a diary and a means of communication with far-flung friends and family. And yes, it can seem vain to do anything where you put yourself forward to be observed if you want to see it that way. The way I look at it, I am just participating in this new electronic internet culture where essentially, you do not exist unless you put yourself out there.

Don’t you think that this FAQ is a bit vain, too?
Yeah it seems that way to me, too. However, you’d be amazed at how many times I get asked these questions. Therefore, a FAQ is actually warranted. Weird, isn’t it?

Why aren’t you on your webcam as much anymore?
I started the webcam in 1998 because it was a fun toy to play with, and I became involved socially online with a lot of other “webcam people”. I was able to be on the cam a lot at that time, (and for many years), because I was a stay-home mom. I did my freelance business from home and so it was very easy to be at or near the computer for large chunks of the day and night. Now, however, I’m in a totally different place in life. I have a lot more stuff going on in my life that keeps me away from the computer. My new husband isn’t comfortable with the idea of having a webcam on in the house as a default condition. Additionally, my computer use is mainly on the laptop now, and it’s more of a pain to hook up the webcam to the laptop, so I only do it sometimes.
