The Bathroom Floor from Hell:

Many years ago we used to live in a townhouse that we rented in Fairfax, Virginia. The entire time we lived there, the oven didn’t work. Several other things were broken all or most of the time as well. I didn’t like our landlord at all. Besides not being good at keeping the place maintained, he was Iranian and wouldn’t talk to me about things because I was a woman. Whenever he called he demanded... read more...

I had dabbled in some Sculpey knick-knacks but started to attempt “real” sculpture in the spring of 2008 when I took my first sculpture course. You can view my various attempts in the Gallery. Click to enter the Sculpture Album in my Gallery:

Enter Here >> Photography and Photograms

I began doing black and white photography, including darkroom processing, in 2006. I enjoyed the medium quite a bit but do not currently have the facilities to do much more of it at this time. I have a collection of photographs and of photograms (no camera is involved, you place objects directly on the photo paper and expose it, then develop it as a print) in my Gallery. Click to enter the Black and White Photography...

An Art Student's Analysis Of My Painting "The Enlightenment"

I was contacted by a student named Roy who was writing an art analysis paper for a class. The assignment was apparently to choose the work they found most compelling from the student exhibition and write an analysis of it. Roy told me he had chosen one of my pieces, The Enlightenment, and wanted to know if there was any other information about it that he should know. I told him it was based...

My Handmade Dagger

I made this dagger when I was 18. It’s grade A tool steel that I cut into the knife shape, then ground down to a blade on a belt grinder. The pommel and guard I did a lost-wax casting in pewter, unfortunately I didn’t have a centrifuge so I melted the pewter in a frying pan on my stove and just poured it and hoped for the best. It actually looks fairly neat, like it’s...

Clothing Design: Wedding Dress, 1991

In 1991 when I was about to get married to Rob, my mom and I went to bridal shop after bridal shop searching for just the right dress. We didn't really find anything that stood out to me, and the price tags would make your hair fall out! Eventually we decided to have the dress custom made rather than buying one off the rack. Surprisingly, this was a much less expensive option! I sketched out...

Clothing Design: Bloomers, Skirt, and a Blouse, 1991

In the summer of 1991, my (now ex-) husband and I visited my mother-in-law’s house in rural Michigan, (this was before she was my mother-in-law). She had a wonderful antique treadle Singer sewing machine. On a whim one day…

Clothing Design: Corset Skirt, 1992

Here is a corset skirt I designed back in 1992. In the photo of the skirt laid out, the blouse looks funny because it is hanging over the edge of a table. Recently I was able to get my friend Angela to try it on and take photos. We chose a blouse at random--it doesn't really "go" with the skirt, so try to ignore the blouse. The skirt is made of a cotton jersey material with...
