My Boring Life Story:

I grew up in the southwest, in the city of Tucson, Arizona. I hated it. I don’t like the heat, and Tucson summers are HOT. 110 or 115 is a common high temperature for a day anywhere from June to August, and it is often over 100 starting in March through October. I suffered through a day in Phoenix that was 122. The winters can’t really be called winters. They aren’t cold. They get “... read more...

Favorite Cities: San Francisco's Music Scene

I love San Franciscoo. I went there on my honeymoon when I married my first husband, in fact. San Francisco and the surrounding area is rich with the arts; galleries, theatre, and concert events, which is one of the things that I love about it. On our honeymoon, for example, we went to see some musical theater that was awesome. One thing that is great about the San Francisco arts scene is the opportunity to see concert and other live music events in smaller, more intimate venues…

The World's Most Complicated Drink

This is me in Sorrento, Italy. I’m enjoying something to eat and drinking a whiskey sour. I’m on my honeymoon. Life is good. What led up to this moment, however, was just bizarre. We had taken the train from Naples to Pompeii, then after looking around Pompeii had taken the train to Sorrento. We walked down the long, winding road to get to the water’s edge and found a little restaurant with outdoor seating. It was...

Heat Safety in the Desert

Follow these rules to stay safe in the Arizona desert. Slow down. Your body can’t do its best at high temperatures and humidities. Don’t dry out. Drink plenty of water while the hot spell lasts. Don’t get too much sun. Sunburn makes the job of heat dissipation that much more difficult....

Dust Explain to me again what is so beautiful? BLEAH!! The stretch… Hummer? (yeah, they are common...

On Tucson and the Desert

I grew up in Tucson, Arizona. I spent the first 25 years of my life there (with the exception of vacations.) I complain about it quite a bit, especially the heat. I don't like the heat, and I don't like deserts. For those who aren't familiar with the geography of the southwestern United States, here is a map: (click for big map) What do you want to read me complain about? Desert! ...

I took this picture in the Scottish Highlands, and when I went back to look at it, I couldn’t remember what I was taking a picture of. Can you spot the rabbit?

Independence Day on the DC Mall, 1999

Yesterday was Independence Day. We went into DC around 1:30 to see the fireworks. It was HOT. Very hot. It was 98 degrees, with a heat index around 105-110. (Note: I still say Tucson was worse, as we’d have days where the temp was ACTUALLY 110-115 or more. Then in July/August during the rainy season, you have humidity on top of that. Oh, and “ Dry Heat My ASS!” to all those who were about...
