Back-end Upgrade

I’ve upgraded the software running the site, so please let me know if you encounter any glitches or weirdness. Unintended weirdness, that is. You can report bugs to me here.

Welcome!

Aha. So it seems you’ve found me. Not that I was hiding or anything; I mean, that would be easy enough on the web, right? I mean it’s far easier to not put up a website, after all. But anyway, here you are.

You may be wondering what there is to do now that you are here. Well, there are several things. There are movie reviews, book reviews, and television reviews, to start with. There are recipes. There are games. There are articles about all sorts of things, from silly stuff to politics to rants about any topic. There are stories and poems. There is art. There is a huge picture gallery. There is a webcam (though it isn’t on very often because I haven’t gotten it to work totally right under Windows Vista) and a personal journal. You can also read my dream journal if you like, though it gets pretty weird in there. There is a forum full of the friendliest people you’ll find on the internet, ready to welcome you to our community. There’s lots more, but that’s a start at least.

All that stuff can be found either from the buttons at the top or the links down the left side of the page in that paper scroll looking thingie. (Do notice that depending on where you are—for example, the gallery pages or my journal—the links on the left may offer additional options.) Poke around, try not to get lost, have fun, tell your friends. Oh, and pack a lunch.

The World's Worst Songs To Have Stuck In Your Head

Everyone knows that some songs are just… stickier than others. They can be great songs! It doesn’t mean the songs are bad…(though it sure makes it worse when they are)… but you can only have a song… or a verse…or a single line play through your head for so many hours…

Streaming Music Playlist

This is an experiment. There is a site that lets you assemble playlist and then put them on your site. I’ve just started this playlist so it’s rather anemic at this point, but it I will try to bulk it out with some of what I think is cool music.

Recipe: Sweet Vegetable Curry

This is an Indian style curry with a sweeter taste. It has a little bit of spiciness to it, and can be easily adjusted to be hotter or less hot.

Recipe: Vegetarian Chili

This is a chili with a bit of kick to it. It’s spicy enough to clear your sinuses a little, but not so spicy my son can’t eat it.

    The party was fun!

Ok so the party was set to go from "4pm til whenever" right? So Justin shows up about 6pm (he's one of the co-conspirators responsible for setting up the party) and then nobody else comes until like... 10:30? I was seriously afraid nobody was going to show at all. But then people started arriving, and they were carpooling so we'd get 2-4 people for one car. It ended up being a really fun party. The...

My neighbors are silly as hell

I saw my neighbor in the front yard doing some weeding, and I went out to talk to her. Mainly I wanted to tell her that we were having people over tonight, both as an FYI and to tell her that if we were too loud to please let us know. Anyway, we got to talking, and after a while her husband came out and we were all talking. Now, they've been married for 62...

    I raised a reader

It was always one of my very important goals of parenting to raise a child who loves to read. I was worried for a while because he was a little delayed verbally as well as in whatever it is that kids use to learn to read. I ended up buying him things like comic books of The Simpsons and other things he could read quickly and think were funny. That worked pretty well. He went...

    A huge fire

In this dream I was down in Cleveland, I think at some school-related function. There were a lot of people and it was very festive. Then something happened but I can't remember what, and we started hearing reports that there was a fire raging in another part of the city. Multiple fires, actually, and spreading. I joined some people with these very weird hoses with very complicated nozzles. We started wetting down everything, to prevent...

Time for another "Recommend A Beer" Thread...

    05/16/2008 09:11 PM
With summer just around the corner, now seems like a good time to bring up this discussion again. I enjoy beer any time of the year, but tend to get more interested in variety as the warmer months approach. It had been quite a while since I'd had Bass Pale Ale, so we got some during a shopping trip. Not bad, but I'm sure some of the beer geeks (heh) here could recommend something similar-but-nicer...
