Cats don’t need fancy, expensive toys to play with. We’ve all seen them batting around the twist-ties from the bread or that little plastic doohickey that comes off the lid of a jug of milk. What matters to the cat is that it moves and catches their eye. This is an inexpensive and simple toy that you can make for your kitty that they will enjoy playing with just as much as that jingly ball you got them at the mall. What’s best is that you can probably go make this, right now, without having to go to the store and buy anything. You probably have everything you need right already.
What you need:
- 2-litre soda bottle cap
- nail
- 3 8-inch pieces of yarn, string, or ribbon (ribbon makes a nice crinkle sound that cats like)
- toothpick or other poking device
Step 1
Use the nail to poke a hole in the middle of the bottle cap
Step 2
Thread the yarn through the hole. You may need to poke it through with a toothpick or similar device. Pull it more than halfway through.
Step 3
Tie a knot in the yarn, so the knot is about in the middle of the total length of the yarn.
Step 4
This is the hardest part. Stuff the yarn back through the hole. You will need to poke it through with something. The hole should be small enough that this is difficult, (otherwise your kitty will just pull all the yarn back out).
Step 5
Pull all the yarn tight so that just the knot remains on the top side.
Step 6
Toss it on the floor in front of your kitty!
For added fun, tie a bell to the end of one of the strings.
