Last Night of Auditions
The show starts off by showing a montage of hip hop dancing from previous cities (interspersed with Nigel mugging his gangsta face/poses) and a shot of a really scary red-haired black woman saying in a hyuk-hyuk hillbilly voice “yeeayah!”
Before the Milwaukee auditions start, they take a moment to show some auditions from previous cities that were not previously shown. Somebody kisses a ferret. Somebody talks up their friend saying “she’s got heart, she’s got talent, she’s got style, she’s gorgeamus, ok?”
Michael Kin – another hip hop dancer from a previous season who went and got some training in other kinds of dance and came back. Seems like a friendly, positive kind of guy. His dancing is mostly “robot” type popping but he does it well. It’s a slower, less frenetic dance than most hip hop routines, which is a nice change. Nigel says he is his “favorite doing this style in DC” and Mary says she hopes he’s taken ballroom so he can make it through the Vegas round. They give him the ticket to Vegas without having to do the choreography, which they say they rarely do for hip hoppers.
They show a couple of roommates from the LA auditions who are auditioning together; they film them at their apartment working out in their onesies jammies. Why do we care? We don’t. This goes on way too long. Please move on to the dancing.
Katee Shean – roommate #1. Contemporary with some good jumps and things, but nothing that I haven’t seen from all of the other good female contemporary dancers. I tend to think that contemporary dancing looks a bit spazzy anyway, so I’m not a good judge of this. Nigel says it is very good, Mary and Dan both agree and she is sent to Vegas. She hugs Nigel. She hugs Kat.
Natalie Reid – roommate #2. Also contemporary. Did I mention I think contemporary is spazzy? She does some moves that I just think are physically unflattering. It’s definitely interesting in its own way, but it has a very “strike a pose” quality to it. The music is kind of interesting. Her ending is somewhat weakened by the fact that she has a huge chunk of her hair in her mouth. Nigel says it was outstanding and that he was engrossed. The other judges loved it and called it unique and honest and vulnerable. She gets sent to Vegas with the joke reason “so that she can look after her friend.”
