Top 4 Couples

Judges: Nigel Lithgoe, Mary Murphy, Toni Basil

Courtney and Will – Samba; music: “I Fell In Love With the DJ,” Che’ Nelle. Courtney is wearing a dress made of yellow string. The dress is very distracting as it disguises her body movements. Samba is supposed to be sexy but this dance just… isn’t. I don’t know if it’s the choreography or the dancing but it has no chemistry for me. At the end, Will is a big gross sweatball. Eww. Nigel says that it was good when they weren’t too caught up in the technique. He says he liked the chemistry, so whatever. Mary tries to be funny and heaps praise on them and screams and is irritating. Toni says she was having so much fun she forgot she was judging.

Comfort Solo – We learn that Comfort went to a performing arts school and has had training in a lot of different types of dance, and that she got yelled at a lot in ballet class. Her solo good but not great. It’s about what anyone would expect.

Katee and Twitch – Contemporary; music: “Mercy,” Duffy. We find out that they were friends before the show. Interesting. It’s a relationship story choreography by Mia Michaels. It starts off with a passionate kiss and a bunch of fighting and Twitch repeatedly throwing Katee out the door (a prop on stage). The kiss looked really fake but the rest of the dance was pretty fun with Katee being the psycho girlfriend and Twitch being the unphased fed-up boyfriend. Katee’s freaky eye makeup kind of bothers me, though.

Nigel says it’s hard to critique the dancing but that the performance was fantastic. He makes a joke that he has been in that situation before, of having a woman banging on the door, but that he wouldn’t let her out no matter what. Mary says she can’t believe he said that, and he says “well, I didn’t mention your name, Mary!” Heh. That is about the only time Mary’s screaming hasn’t bothered me. Mary tries to make a funny with a retarded knock-knock joke that has no punch line. Everybody fawns all over Mia’s choreography as usual, and she makes that horrible scrunched up “wow” face (out in the audience) that she always does—the one that’s all fakey-fakey “I am so surprised that you like me!”

Will Solo – He does a James Brown impression as his solo. It’s entertaining and funny. the wig is hilarious. Cat kowtows to him.

Comfort and Mark – Hip Hop; music: “Party People,” Fergie feat Nelly. The routine is about kids in detention. Mark seems to be a half a beat behind Comfort on most of the moves. It improves a bit during the dance but I feel like the lack of sync really hurt the dance. There is a really neat lift where she does a flip off of his back. Nigel says that Comfort was incredible but that she dances better in choreography than in her solos. He also says Mark was really good. Mary says they did a great job. Surprisingly she says she liked the synchronized parts at the beginning. Wtf? Toni loves it, too.

Katee Solo – I’m not impressed. It’s a lot of flailing around and clutching at herself, same as the Contemporary dancers’ solos always are.

Chelsie and Joshua – Argentine Tango; music: “A Los Amigos,” Forever Tango (Original Cast). The string store must have had a sale this week because Chelsie’s dress is also made of string. Some of the opening moves I felt were off balance but the dance picked up in the middle and I really enjoyed it. Nigel says that Joshua has the biggest bum in the competition. He thought that the choreography played to their strengths well. Mary says that this tango was “more sexier” than the last one that Chelsie did. She screams and drags out her stupid “hot tamale train” thing and makes me want to murder her. Toni says it felt spontaneous.

Mark Solo – We see a photo that shows that Mark got his ears from his dad. His dance is a bit goofy to me and some of the moves looked like they were only half completed.
